About District of Columbia Public Schools
The District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) is a diverse, urban school district serving students in the nation's capital. The systemic reform that is underway in DCPS is designed to improve and advance student achievement with rigorous academic standards, challenging programs that link classroom experience with career options, and organizational structures that effectively support learning.

Our Common Purpose
The shared goal of these thousands of people is to make DCPS the highest performing urban school district in the nation, and to once and for all close the achievement gap that separates low-income students and students of color from their higher-income and white peers.
Impact
The following objectives will enable us to realize our collective aspirations for DCPS and those we serve:
- Create schools that provide a consistent foundation in academics, strong support for social and emotional needs, and a variety of challenging themes and programs
- Develop and retain the most highly effective educators in the country, and recognize and reward their work
- Implement a rigorous, relevant, college preparatory curriculum that gives all students meaningful options for life
- Support decision making with accurate information
