About BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life)

BELL pursues its mission by providing educational summer and after school programs to the children who need them most. The BELL Summer and Bell After School programs feature small-group tutoring in literacy and math; mentoring from adult role models to foster self-respect and social skills; experiential learning through field trips, guest speakers and community service; support for parents to more deeply engage in their children's education; and rigorous evaluation to ensure continual improvement and success for children.

Mission

BELL's mission is to dramatically increase the academic achievements, self-esteem and life opportunities of children living in under-resourced , urban communities.

Impact

A core element of our programs is testing of scholars through use of Stanford Diagnostic tests at both beginning and end of our programs. Through use of these tests, we have been able to demonstrate the significant gains of our scholars over time. On average, scholars in our summer programs gained 5 months of grade equivalent reading and math skills over the 6 weeks of the program.
