About Cotsen Family Foundation
The Cotsen Family foundation offers fellowships to a handful of teachers within a school, giving them a full-time mentor and useful resources for studying and perfecting their craft.
The ART of TEACHING program combines a number of components to produce powerful professional growth and development. Mentors act as change agents coaching individual Cotsen fellows in classrooms weekly. Fellows observe great teachers in other school systems to gain new vision and inspiration.
Mission
The Cotsen Family Foundation's mission is to transform experienced and capable educators into gifted teachers. Mentoring is the strategy that successfully promotes gifted teaching in many individuals and high quality teaching in others.
Impact
Our most important evaluation data comes from analysis of video tapes of teachers in our program. The most recent data indicates that 34% of participants were rated as artful, greatly exceeding our goal of 20%. Furthermore, 62% of participants made significant gains in teaching quality over the course of the program.
