Nolberto recently joined the Los Angeles Unified School District as their Deputy Chief Business Officer. In this role for the second largest school district in the country, he assists with financial and strategic planning to further the educational mission of the district. He is responsible for ensuring that district funds are managed responsibly and reported accurately and for leading the full spectrum of financial services. Prior to that, he served as the Chief Financial Officer of Portland Public Schools. Before that, he was the Chief Financial Officer of Tulsa Public Schools. He came to Oklahoma by way of California, previously serving as the Chief Operations Officer in Los Angeles, at the LA Promise Fund, and prior to that he worked in both operations and finance for Green Dot Public Schools.
Previous to his career in education, Nolberto spent 12 years in the healthcare sector in roles spanning from lab technician to business analyst to account manager. He holds a bachelors in Chemistry and Spanish from the University of Southern California and earned an MBA from Loyola Marymount University. In addition, Nolberto completed a two year program earning a Master’s in Educational Leadership from The Broad Center in Urban Education.
As someone who grew up in Compton, California and is the son of immigrant parents, Nolberto strongly believes that a zip code should not limit nor define a person and as such has focused his career on enhancing systems to improve outcomes for disadvantaged students. Outside of work, Nolberto’s focus is completely dedicated to his wife, Lily and their two sons, Diego and Sergio.
