Matt is the Chief Financial and Operating Officer at Hope Chicago, a nonprofit startup dedicated to providing debt-free postsecondary education to thousands of Chicago students and their families. Prior to joining Hope Chicago in October 2021, Matt served as Chief Talent Officer of Chicago Public Schools for nearly six years, increasing teacher diversity across the city, and leading initiatives to ensure top teaching talent reaches all students equitably.
He was raised in suburban Boston and is passionate about ensuring all students have access to the kinds of educational opportunities he was privileged to have. After beginning his career as a management consultant in Washington, D.C., Matt fell in love with Chicago during a visit there and moved in 2007. Shortly afterward, Matt joined Chicago Public Schools, later serving as Chief of Staff in the Talent function before becoming Chief Operating Officer of The Chicago Public Education Fund.
Matt holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Rochester and a Master’s degree in Urban Education Policy from Brown University. He is also a proud Education Pioneers alumnus and former Broad Resident.
